Harlech Leisure

Closed our doors…

Unfortunately we have closed the doors for the very last time, we tried our hardest to keep this venue running.

As a community we will miss this fantastic venue.

Imminent closure of Harlech & Ardudwy Leisure

It is with an extremely heavy heart we are announcing the closure of Harlech & Ardudwy Leisure

Over the coming weeks, and we will be losing our swimming pool which has been in our community since the 1970’s. Harlech swimming pool has provided a facility for teaching 1000’s of children and adults to swim, employed 100’s of people locally over the years and provided a great wet weather alternative to visitors in the area.

Earlier this year the Community Councils of Talsarnau, Llanbedr, Barmouth, Dyffryn & Tal y Bont decided they would no longer support HAL financially through the precept payment, we were given 2 months’ notice about the reduction in funding of around £30,000 a year. We have continued to keep the doors open for as long as possible and Gwynedd Council were approached to ask for some financial support so that we can remain open, but we received a letter on the 24.07.24 stating that Gwynedd Council would not be able to help us financially due to their own financial constraints and having to cut their own core services.

Over the last few months, there has been a lot of activity in the centre as many reports have been produced which looks at future opportunities for HAL around energy saving and a professional business plan was produced which identifies that there is a viable business within HAL, it gives a clear direction for the centre to secure its future. However, unfortunately the money has run out before we have been given the opportunity to make any changes or plan for the future. The business plan is available along with other relevant reports and can be seen below.

The centre staff (3 x full-time) and casual staff have been informed of the decision that the centre will close before the end of August 2024. We have been lucky enough to have some very dedicated staff over the years who have worked hard to keep the doors open for the last 14 years as a not for profit – social enterprise.A special thanks to Donna Morris-Collins and the current team at HAL for working hard to create new income streams and generating a varied and exciting timetable for both the local community and wider visitors to enjoy along with a great re-launch of the swimming pool café.

The swimming pool in Harlech would have closed in 2008 but the community felt very strongly about keeping this important service within our community and a group of volunteers started the process of taking over the running of the swimming pool in Harlech from Gwynedd Council.  Initially the volunteer board successful applied for a grant from the National Lottery to build a new state of the art climbing wall and a new café along with essential maintenance work on the swimming pool basin.  There have been so many volunteers involved in HAL over the years and we can safely say that without this local support and enthusiasm for the centre – the doors would have closed a long time ago so a big thank you to everyone who has been involved with HAL over the years but now we need your help again.  The current board of directors’ requests that members of the community step forward to volunteer their time to help deliver the next phase (whatever that might be). The work involved must not rest on the shoulders of a handful of people within our community, this is a community owned asset.

A public meeting is planned for Sunday 11.08.24 @1pm in HAL cafe.

Cau drysau Harlech a Ardudwy Hamdden yn fuan

Gyda chalon hynod o drwm rydym yn cyhoeddi y bydd Harlech ac Ardudwy Hamdden(HAL) yn cau dros yr wythnosau nesaf, a byddwn yn colli ein pwll nofio sydd wedi bod yn ein cymuned ers y 1970au. Mae pwll nofio Harlech wedi darparu cyfleuster ar gyfer addysgu miloedd o blant ac oedolion i nofio, wedi cyflogi 100odd o bobl yn lleol dros y blynyddoedd ac wedi darparu dewis tywydd gwlyb gwych i ymwelwyr â’r ardal.
Yn gynharach eleni penderfynodd Cynghorau Cymuned Talsarnau, Llanbedr, Abermaw, Dyffryn a Thal y Bont na fyddent bellach yn cefnogi HAL yn ariannol drwy’r taliad praesept, rhoddwyd 2 fis o rybudd i ni am y gostyngiad mewn cyllid o tua £30,000 y flwyddyn. Rydym wedi parhau i gadw’r drysau ar agor cyn hired a phosib a chysylltwyd â Chyngor Gwynedd i ofyn am ychydig o gefnogaeth ariannol fel y gallwn aros ar agor ond derbyniasom lythyr ar y 24.07.24 yn datgan na fyddai Cyngor Gwynedd yn gallu helpu ni yn ariannol oherwydd eu cyfyngiadau ariannol eu hunain a gorfod torri eu gwasanaethau craidd eu hunain.
Dros y misoedd diwethaf, bu llawer o weithgarwch yn y ganolfan gan fod llawer o adroddiadau wedi’u cynhyrchu sy’n edrych ar gyfleoedd i’r dyfodol ar gyfer HAL o gwmpas arbed ynni a chynhyrchwyd cynllun busnes proffesiynol sy’n nodi bod busnes hyfyw o fewn HAL, mae’n rhoi cyfeiriad clir i’r ganolfan er mwyn sicrhau ei dyfodol. Fodd bynnag, yn anffodus mae’r arian wedi dod i ben cyn inni gael y cyfle i wneud unrhyw newidiadau neu gynllunio ar gyfer y dyfodol. Mae’r cynllun busnes ar gael ar ein gwefan ynghyd â gwybodaeth berthnasol arall: www.harlechpool.com
Mae staff y ganolfan (3 x llawn amser) a staff achlysurol wedi cael gwybod am y penderfyniad y bydd y ganolfan yn cau cyn diwedd Awst 2024. Rydym wedi bod yn ddigon ffodus i gael rhai staff ymroddedig iawn dros y blynyddoedd sydd wedi gweithio’n galed i cadw’r drysau ar agor am y 14 mlynedd diwethaf fel menter gymdeithasol ddielw.  Diolch arbennig i Donna Morris-Collins a thîm presennol HAL am weithio’n galed i greu ffrydiau incwm newydd a chreu amserlen amrywiol a chyffrous i’r gymuned leol ac ymwelwyr ehangach ei mwynhau ynghyd ag ail-lansio’r caffi y pwll nofio, sydd wedi bod yn llwyddianus.
Byddai pwll nofio Harlech wedi cau yn 2008 ond teimlai’r gymuned yn gryf iawn dros gadw’r gwasanaeth pwysig hwn o fewn ein cymuned a dechreuodd criw o wirfoddolwyr ar y broses o gymryd drosodd rhedeg y pwll nofio yn Harlech oddi ar Gyngor Gwynedd.  I ddechrau, gwnaeth y bwrdd gwirfoddol gais llwyddianus am grant gan y Loteri Genedlaethol i adeiladu wal ddringo newydd a chaffi newydd ynghyd â gwaith cynnal a chadw hanfodol ar y pwll nofio.  Mae cymaint o wirfoddolwyr wedi bod yn rhan o HAL dros y blynyddoedd a gallwn ddweud yn saff, heb y gefnogaeth leol a’r brwdfrydedd yma am y ganolfan – byddai’r drysau wedi cau amser maith yn ôl felly diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb sydd wedi bod yn ymwneud â HAL dros y blynyddoedd ond nawr rydym angen eich help eto.  Mae’r bwrdd cyfarwyddwyr presennol yn gofyn i aelodau’r gymuned gamu ymlaen i wirfoddoli eu hamser i helpu i gyflawni’r cam nesaf (beth bynnag yw hwnnw). Rhaid i’r gwaith dan sylw beidio â gorffwys ar ysgwyddau llond llaw o bobl yn ein cymuned, mae hwn yn ased sy’n eiddo i’r gymuned.

Mae cyfarfod cyhoeddus wedi’i drefnu ar gyfer Dydd Sul 11.08.24 am 1pm yng nghaffi HAL.

I gynnig eich cymorth e-bostiwch: heidiwilliamshal@outlook.com

Diolch
